Assignment


 

1.      Plot the Fourier series for the following signal studied in class.

 

 

                      ao = 1, an = 0, bn =

           

            Plot for 1, 2, 10 and 100 harmonics.

            Note: First harmonic is fundamental at fo.

 

2.      Plot the Fourier series for example 6.4 (page 607) in the text for 1, 2, 10, 50 and harmonics.

 

3.      Compare the results in (1) and (2). Which ones uses relatively fewer harmonics to get to a close approximation to the original? Why do you think that is true? Which of the signals would you say has a larger bandwidth?

 

4.      Use numerical integration in MATLAB to compute the Fourier series coefficients ao, an and b­n for the following signal.

 

 

Show the Fourier series for 1, 2, 10, 50 and 100 Harmonics.

5.      Use numerical integration in MATLAB to compute coefficients for Fourier  series for Example 6.4, but use pulses that go from [-,] instead of [-,]. The pulses still repeat every 2π seconds s. Show 1, 2, 10, 50 and 100 Harmonics.

 

6.      Compare results in (2) and (5). Which signal seems to need more bandwidth to respect it well using a Fourier series?
