Roger Alan Pick: Teaching Responsibilities

Postgraduate: Each academic year I teach two two courses in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program. For the past year, these courses have been MIS 5558, "Management and Economics of Computers," and MIS 5569, "Information Systems Consulting." These are three semester credit hour courses offered in the evening. I also often teach MIS 5552, "Data Base Management." Enrollment in each section is generally 15 to 33 students per semester. These courses are electives for the MBA, but they are required for students choosing an emphasis in Management of Information Systems. The students are mostly part-time students and full-time professionals; over half work in the information technology area. A few of the students are full-time students; they are mostly international students.

Undergraduate: My role in the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program is changing as we evolve over the coming three years to a new degree program and new course numbers. During the 2007-2008 academic year, I expect to teach BIS 202 "Computer Applications in Management" for the last time. It is taken by students in our old degree program, by students in our business minor program, and by non-business students. I also supervise BIS 203 "Computer Applications in Business." I set course objectives, choose the textbooks, hire the lecturers, write the syllabus, and serve as consultant to the part-time teachers of the course. I taught an experimental offering of the course in the winter, 2007 semester, and I expect to return to teaching it again in the future. It is taken by pre-business students and by business minor students. Due to the prerequisites for this new course, I do not expect it to attract non-business students. Enrollment in each section will be 20 to 33 students. The course is taught in our computer classroom. This room is a facility which provides each student with his/her own individual workstation. Finally, I teach BIS 469 "Information Systems Consulting."
