2 or More Samples?

If you have two (and only two)samples or variables to compare:
1. then the Mann-Whitney (Wilcox) U-test is what you need to do
If you are comparing more than two samples, (i.e.,three or more)
1. Kruskal-Wallis test is the way to go

Just One Sample?

Yes Virginia there is a One Sample Chi-Squared test.

If you need to see if your sample differs from other samples where you have a known value you would use the One-Sample Chi-Square Test
